What does “heuristic” mean?

The term “heuristic” (Greek for “to discover”) was popularised by Elinor Goldschmied (1910–2009). Heuristic play supports curiosity, imagination & free exploration, as children select, manipulate, and learn about everyday objects—discovering what they can and can’t do.

What is the “Theory of Loose Parts”?

Loose parts are everyday, open-ended materials (wood, metal, fabric, etc.) that children can move, combine, and transform. Our eco-friendly collection is entirely plastic-free and designed to ignite creativity and sensory learning.

“A ‘loose‑parts’ toy… is open‑ended; children may use it in many ways and combine it…” — Richard Louv

I’ve got a heuristic set, what next?

You can simply set it up and watch the magic happen! Choose a quiet corner with a blanket or rug. Place the objects in a low basket. Sit nearby, use descriptive language (“soft,” “rough,” “shiny”), and allow your child to lead the play. Rotate items to keep it fresh and always stay close to supervise.

What age are your sets for?

Ideal for ages 4–6 months through 3+ years. All items meet AS/NZ 8124.1 safety standards. We recommend you supervise play and choose the right pieces for your child’s stage.

Are you eco‑friendly?

Absolutely! Our products are plastic-free, compactly packed in cotton-linen or organza bags, and shipped using biodegradable and recyclable materials—from Geami WrapPak to compostable courier bags.

How do I clean my play treasures?

  • Fabric pieces: Hand-wash in mild, unscented detergent, rinse thoroughly, and line dry in the sun.
